15 May 2018 marks our 5th birthday!

Today is a happy day at the offices of Human Rights in the Picture: we celebrate our 5th birthday! We have come a long way since Jan de Koning and Nadja Houben started the organisation on 15 May 2013. We have come long way because we have done a lot of work in these 5 year and we created a hub of friends world wide that are at all times willing to share their talents with us. Filmmakers, visual artists, photographers, translators, editors, diplomats, lawyers, human rights defenders, professors, NGO staff, students and teachers all have helped us promote respect for human rights by using art. We will continue to visualise human rights for a better world! Follow us on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram for more news or send an email to

What we do: past and future

The Long Haul

In January 2017 the world lost one of it's giants in human rights: Nigel Rodley.

Human Rights in the Picture, in close collaboration with the Human Rights Centre of Essex University and filmmaker Victor Fokke, wants to use his remarkable life story and his outstanding achievements to inspire, teach and shape new generations of students by making a film.

To make this happen we are raising funds, in total 60.000 euro. We are looking for partners that can financially support us. We have different levels of partnership, each with their own rewards.

50 euro partner: we keep you up to date during the whole production, you'll get invited to a screening and you'll get a download link to the film.
100 euro partner: all the mentioned above and a customized pen drive with the film.
250 euro name partner: all the mentioned above and you'll be an official name partner, which means that your name will be added to the credits.
500 euro co-associate partner: all the mentioned above and your name will be mentioned as a co-associate partner. You will be invited to the exclusive premiere where you can meet and network with all the people that are in the film, the makers and all other important funders like you.
1.000 euro associate partner: all the mentioned above and your name will be mentioned as a associate partner. Before the premiere you have an exclusive diner with the makers and staff of Human Rights Centre of the Essex University.
5.000 euro co-executive producer: all the mentioned above and your name will be mentioned as a co-executive producer inclusive your name and or logo on all official communication of the project. Next to that you will be part of the team: we will ask for your input, feedback and experience.
10.000 euro executive producer: all the mentioned above and your name will be mentioned as an executive producer. Of course, as above, you will be part of the team and this time we will actually listen! 🙂

Help us pay tribute to Sir Nigel Rodley. Thank you very much!
Victor Fokke & Nadja Houben
